How to deal with the fluorescent lampholder problem?
2014-09-02 18:31:41

Fluorescent lights are popular because of their energy efficiency and long lifespan compared to incandescent bulbs. However, fluorescent lights produce light in a different way from lights that use resistors, and they require specialized equipment in order to operate. The fluorescent lamp holder is one of the most important parts of the fluorescent lamp,
If the fluorescent light fixture contains a single lamp, make sure the correct starter is locked into light socket, and the lamp is correctly positioned in both fluorescent lamp holders.Lamps and starters have been known to vibrate or be bumped so that they no longer make electrical contact.

Starters turn clockwise to lock into their sockets, while lamps have an alignment mark on each end of the lamp (usually a depression in the metal cap) that indicates where the tube should be positioned when installed.
make sure the problem the socket needs replacing. It might be that the bulb is about to die. You can tell this if the light flickers or the tube has turned grey or black at its ends. You also should clean the socket and see if that works before replacing it. Replace the socket only if it is visibly damaged or cracked.

Take out the bulbs from the fixture. Next, remove the cover of the fluorescent light. Depending on the model, you will have to remove at least two screws.
Remove the socket so you can examine the wiring. There should be several wires. Wrap a different colored tap on each wire or label them so you can tell where each one belongs. You also can disconnect a wire from the old socket and hook it to the new socket. Your wires should be cut to about 1/2 inch,Put the wires from the light into the new socket's terminal slots. After you put the wires in, you will not be able to get them out again.

If the fluorescent light fixture has more than one lamp, it is unlikely that all lamps and starters came loose at the same time, so check the other causes.
